An Announcement

I was at the Green Party of Nova Scotia founding convention in February. Call it rapid advancement, but I, Danny Melvin, am running in the Nova Scotia provincial election in the riding of Dartmouth South-Portland Valley, for the Green Party. I've put off this for about a week because I kept running into difficulties with the Returning Office, because of some misunderstandings on both of our parts. It's an exciting experience certainly, but some of us are getting some resistance, because we are basically working as a group, as opposed to a bunch of individual organizations. Since we are 'the new kids on the block', we have to 'dot every i' etc., but hey, if I can do it, so can, well, more people probably could anyway.

I've made some other pronouncements lately, but in retrospect, they were not well timed. I have temporarily removed those posts which disclose my disability, and I hope that people who do know will be discreet about it, but I am finally disclosing my real name on this blog after two years. And I'd also like to mention here that Mike McGuire over at 'Socialist Gulag' has started an election blog, and it's on either side of this column (it's with the Non-Partisan blogs on the right). Wish me luck, thanks.

Good luck Danny.

I couldn't find our Green Party plackard when I was out at the house yesterday, so if you have another, or even a poster, I will display it on the front of our building.

I am filled with admiration (and a little bit of jealousy) for your running for public office.

Thanks Andrew, I'll try to get one for you.

This is a rare opportunity for sure, to be part of the beginning of a new party and a new way of thinking. Most of us have our moments in the sun, like you when you debated Michael Howard on TV years ago.

It is scary to think that that was just over 20 years ago! I hope you have got further (and gained less weight) than me in the next 20 years.
